A man of faith, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, known for his generous heart

John 14:1-3
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me…
I go to prepare a place for you.”
Alden (Brent) Cowie
March 16, 1957 - April 20, 2026
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and
grandfather, Alden (Brent) Cowie, at the age of 69. Though we find comfort in knowing
he is with his Lord and Savior, we will miss him dearly.
Born on March 16, 1957, in Calgary to Milton and Jean Cowie, Brent was the eldest of
four siblings: Wade (Nicole), Julieann (Bruce), and Lee (Linda). He grew up in Ogden,
forging meaningful connections that would last a lifetime.
Brent's life revolved around his faith and family. At the age of 15, with the support of a
neighboring family, he placed his trust in Jesus, marking the beginning of a Christian
journey that would be central to his life.
As a youth, Brent's greatest passion was football—he even slept with his new football!
Over time, he developed a profound love for country music, particularly the lead guitar.
He dedicated most of his career to Hibbert International, starting as a shipper and
ultimately rising to the position of president.
In 1974, at 17, Brent met his future wife, Penny, and they married two years later at her
parents' home in Calgary. Together, they raised four children: Joe (Carol), Sylvia
(Marcus), Vivian (Graham), and Lewis (Alison), along with their 12 grandchildren:
Jenna, Amber, James, Jaden, Kate, Anya, Ronan, Sasha, Lewis, Nadia, Eli, and Zoey.
Brent shared a deep love for his children and enjoyed unique bonds with each
grandchild. As the eldest of seven, Penny's family welcomed Brent as a cherished
brother; her younger siblings could hardly remember a time without him.
At just 37, Brent faced a significant health challenge when he was diagnosed with
cardiomyopathy. This diagnosis marked a profound turn in his life, particularly for
someone who had always been athletic. Nevertheless, Brent's optimism and resilience
enabled him to live fully despite this setback.
Brent and Penny nurtured a strong Christian faith and actively participated in church
activities, which brought them immense joy. After retiring, he continued to pursue his
love of music, singing in choirs and playing lead guitar with his country band, PonyJack.
He also found joy in golf, where his athletic talent shone through.
Known for his warm demeanor, cheerful disposition, hospitality, generosity, and deep
love for his family, Brent touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the remarkable staff at Rockyview Hospital, where
Brent spent his final three weeks. The ICU team provided exceptional care and comfort, as did Unit71.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 27, at 2:00 PM at Eden Brook Funeral
